Message from the President:
On behalf of the Broward County Women Lawyers’ Association (“BCWLA”), it gives me great pleasure to announce this year’s theme is “Making Your Mark and Leaving a Legacy.” This theme is very appropriate, as we embrace and renew friendships after being secluded from each other, because of the pandemic. The past two years have taught us that life is a fleeting moment and should be treasured. This new year is a new beginning for us to celebrate life, reignite our friendships and to think about our legacy and the impact we would like to make in our community.
BCWLA is a voluntary bar association that is committed to serving the Broward County community. It is comprised of a diverse group of lawyers and Judges. While BCWLA members vary in experience, areas of practice, gender, age, and ethnicity; we share the common vision that a successful legal association, thrives on the commitment and service of its members to the legal and civic community.
Through our members, we provide pro bono legal assistance to indigent clients, guide and serve as role models to young women in need and secure funds and items such as professional clothing and toys to donate to area charities. We also proudly award annual scholarships to graduating law students, in partnership with NSU. BCWLA earmarks proceeds from events to this worthwhile endeavor and has historically awarded up to $10,000 to deserving graduates. This goal provides our organization an opportunity to make our mark on the future of our legal profession by helping aspiring young attorneys achieve their goals and hopefully, one day, these attorneys will pay it forward. We believe in “giving back” and collaborating with other community-based organizations to make a positive and impactful difference!
As the BCWLA embarks on a new year, we remain committed to the Broward County community. We will continue to provide our members with the opportunity to learn, socialize, earn CLE credits, and share their knowledge, skills, and experiences with other members. We will also continue to provide pro bono services to the community. However, we cannot do this without your support, so I ask you to commit to supporting BCWLA in the coming year and beyond. Take part in our events, donate to our various causes and stand with us as we help the indigent residents in our community.
It was Maya Angelou who said “[y]ou have no idea what your legacy will be because your legacy is every life you touch.” So, join with me and BCWLA, on a legacy journey to make a positive impact in a world that is governed by so much negativity, and help us touch as many lives as possible as we create our legacy.
Thank you for choosing to be part of our organization.
