Human Trafficking sounds like something that happens in far away places, but it’s also happening right here in Broward County and it’s affecting our community.
The Broward County Women Lawyers’ Association recognizes Human Trafficking Awareness Month in January 2016 by presenting Human Trafficking: It’s Closer Than You Think – featuring an esteemed panel of Broward community leaders who are fighting human trafficking and helping victims every day.
Come and hear about how our young people and vulnerable others are falling prey to abduction, violence, prostitution, psychological trauma, and modern-day slavery, and learn what we, as attorneys, can do to help. These violations of human and civil rights are taking place in our backyard and it’s only by shedding light and raising awareness that we can effect change!
Join us to hear about this compelling issue, how to recognize it, and what resources are available to help its victims. Our panel of speakers will include:
- Aggie Pappas, Executive Director of the Pace Center for Girls, Broward
- Jumorrow Johnson, Victim Advocate at Plantation Police Department and Vice President of Education and Outreach of the Broward Human Trafficking Coalition
- The Honorable Stacy Ross, Broward Circuit Court Judge of the Girls’ Court – created to offer therapeutic services to some of Broward’s most vulnerable population-girls in the delinquency system-to help reduce their sanctions while giving them much needed services.
- Mary A. Riedel, President and CEO of Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc.
